Who’s the next Idol? Music folks get their say!

It’s Hady. No, it’s Jonathan. No, it’s Hady. It’s Jon! It’s… we can’t make up our mind! Who will the next Singapore Idol be? We get our blurry lens out of the way and round up the opinions of musicians, past season contestants and radio deejays — who better than those who’ve got their souls and feet steeped in music? — on whom the lucky guy is.

Ginette Chittick

“Ok (looking into my faux crystal ball from Fu Lu Shou Centre). I predict — even though I have watched Singapore Idol a total of ten minutes combined — that Hady will win. He seems to be more collected, more together and more smooth. Perhaps Jonathan should get himself a little dirtier, a little grittier. We all like bad boys.”
Taufik Batisah
Taufik Batisah, Singapore Idol season one winner
"Hady’s the stronger singer and will probably stand a good chance of winning. But Jonathan might also have the upper hand with his strong stage presence and mass appeal. It's gonna be a tough fight and it's all down to their song choices and performance that night.”
Ronin (L-R: Derryn, Sean, Levan, Bang & Simon)
  Sean Cheng, Ronin
“Jonathan, ‘cos he pushes the envelope of creativity with cutting-edge technology...” (?!)

Bang, Ronin
“Hady. Because he is a talented singer and performer with marketing potential, and also because his vocals are suited for mainstream pop. Jonathan has a relatively genre-specific rock growl.”

Simon Lee, Ronin
“Jonathan. Although Hady has got better technique and range in his vocals, there is a lack of feel in his singing as compared to Jonathan's. When Jonathan does it right, he’s got a lot of stage presence and charisma. Nevertheless, both are fantastic singers and I'm sure they’ll both do well regardless of the results.”

Levan Wee, Ronin
“Hady. Though armed with a limited vocabulary, he undoubtedly has the singing chops. Jonathan sounds a little like Matchbox 20 mixed in with cat whiskers and too much fried eggs. Though that isn't a very bad thing, it's not very original. Anyone is better than Sylvester Sim though, so whoever wins, it's a plus day for us all.”

Soo Wei
Soo Wei, MediaCorp 98.7FM Senior Promotions Executive / Home radio host
“It’s hard to choose between two good contestants but if I have to, (my) prediction sways in favour of Jonathan for his rockability and sexy croon. His ‘star’ factor comes through, so he gets my vote.”
Ang Chek Meng
  Ang Chek Meng, T'ang Quartet
“I'm rooting for Hady ‘cos he has better charisma and (is) Idol material!”
Daphne Khoo
Daphne Khoo, Singapore Idol season one finalist
“Do I have a personal fave? Noooo! I’ve seen both of them improve so much in the competition and grown with Singapore. Everyone knows they can sing, so it all depends on their performances that night.”
A Vacant Affair (From left: Matt’s second & Shen’s fourth)
Shen & Matt, A Vacant Affair
“We predict that Hady will win. Hady OWNS seriously good vocals coupled with an earnest sincerity you don't get from most performers nowadays. That's what music should be about. It's gonna be a tough fight, though.”
Saw Loser

Sam, Saw Loser
“I think Jonathan will win! I like his song choices and vocal tone. I personally can see him as the next Singapore Idol.”

Masashi, Saw Loser
“Pretty sure they both deserve to be it, but I think I can picture Jonathan being the one more than Hady.”

Jimmy, Saw Loser
“Hady, for sure! He's got it in the bag! He's got some pretty sweet dance moves!”

Shan Wee

Shan Wee, MediaCorp 98.7FM radio deejay
"Both guys are very good and I am glad the final two are (of) quality. I think Jonathan will be the next Idol. He is a good singer and has a real teen-idol-long-hair look. The finals mirror the first season with one Chinese guy and one Malay… this time round, the Chinese guy doesn't suck. The SMS voting may result in Jonathan being the Singapore Idol."

Olinda Cho

Olinda Cho, Singapore Idol finalist
“Hmmm....this one is definitely a real toughie. The two have their own plus points. Hady's vocals are very strong, he has been the most consistent performer so far but Jon's stage presence is very strong and charismatic. It all depends on their performances on the big night and whom the audiences prefer. All said, I wish the both of the boys the best luck and remember LIFE IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES, YOU'LL NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GONNA GET!”

The Suns

San Singer, The Suns
"Hady will win! Because his voice is smooth and tasty like ghee thosai."

Wayne Thunder, The Suns
"Hady's personality is a bit too bland for my liking but he should be able to win as long as he sings to his potential."

JBoss, The Suns
"Zoe Tay sure win! Oh she's not competing ar?"

The remaining two finalists face off at the much-awaited Grand Finals in a matter of days. Don't miss the Performance Show ‘LIVE' on Sun, Sept 24 @ 8pm and
