It’s a dog eat dog world out there, however in Singapore Idol, it’s either hug or don’t get hugged. On the results show last Thursday, Meryl turned down a hug from Norman and it seemed she wasn’t shown much love from the other contestants. Was Meryl snubbed, or simply forgotten? We pack our magnifying glasses and bring along our bomb-sniffing dogs and do some snooping for the truth!
| Stick ‘em in the air like you just don’t care! |
Here’s where it all began. Norman went for a victory hug, but all he got was a “Bang bang!” type gesture. Are you feeling lucky punk? Are you?
Norman’s take on not getting any: “She’s uncomfortable hugging other guys, she told me she feels a bit shy about it. It’s not like she’s telling me to get away from her.”
I’m sure that guns are just about the friendliest way to say “I’m a bit shy,” Norman.

The moment which sparked the most controversy. Here’s Geraldine, smiling away like she just won a million bucks after giving a hug to Norman. It looks like she’s moving on to give one to Meryl, and Meryl opens her arms looking hopeful.
|
Oh no she didn’t. Oh yes she did! Geraldine totally walks right past Meryl and snags a hug with Primero. Poor Meryl looks like she could use a million bucks.
Geraldine defends herself: “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know I didn’t hug her. (laughs) I was only told by my friend that I didn’t hug her. I was shocked myself. It was purely a mistake. I’ll make sure I hug everybody this time, I will count and make sure I hug seven people.”
We are pretty sure everyone else will be counting at home too. |
| Up top, down low… too slow! |
As soon as Jay was announced to be one of the lucky ones to be in the Wild Card show, he ran down giving high-fives all round. Here we see Meryl with her hand up, all ready for some hand slapping action…
|
… But by the way this article is going, you probably already guessed it. Yes, he misses her and gives Primero a hug! What’s going on here? That’s twice in a night she was forgotten!
Jay explains his sorry behavior: “When this thing happened, it dawned on me that I’m a public figure and what I do is important. I actually intended to high-five everybody and I didn’t know I missed her. It wasn’t intentional. I’m so sorry that I missed her.”

| Conclusion |
Was Meryl snubbed? Or were the idols too forgetful? We think that the reason is pretty clear. Yes, it is an element clearly visible in both cases.
Primero was always the next in line! Indeed, the charms of Primero “Sexy Beast” Ang are simply irresistible! Poor Meryl was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Next time Primero, stand first in line so you’re beastly charms don’t distract the other idols from giving hugs and high fives! |
